Alter, Repair + Upcycle Your Garments with Lauren

Garment alterations are a fun and empowering way to level up your sewing skills and expand your wardrobe options. Professional tailor Lauren Taylor is here to guide you through the entire process of this essential skill set! Whether you are working with handmade or ready-to-wear, this class will teach you how to see flaws in garments as exciting opportunities for improvement.

Students can expect to learn a variety of important alteration skills and tricks, from pin fitting to easy seam ripping to flawless finishing. They can expect to learn best practices for using trial-and-error to approach for alterations and repairs on existing garments, and how to troubleshoot any problems that may arise. The exact techniques covered in class will depend on the garments that are brought in by students. Some suggestions of topics that can be covered include altering a garment for better fit or proportion, making design changes (necklines, sleeves, hemlines, adding or removing ease, pockets, etc), basic garment repairs (holes, tears, replacing elastic and zippers, etc), changing the size of a garment, and repairing or replacing lining.

Although we may not get through every single piece by the end of class, students can expect to leave with the knowledge and confidence to be able to continue their practice at home. Class is $195 and limited to 6 students.
